With that said, I thought it might be interesting to see what adjectives are commonly (and not so commonly) used.<\/p>\n<p>I did a quick survey of \u00a0adjectives on active listings in RMLS<em>web<\/em>; the survey was of words that appear in the \u201ccomments\u201d (private or public) fields in RMLS<em>web<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The winner was &#8220;great&#8221; at 34%, followed by &#8220;beautiful&#8221; at just over 20%. However, I should note that I do have some suspicion that the term &#8220;great room&#8221; may have affected the outcome.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are the Top 20 results:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rmls\/3576930892\/sizes\/o\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"   \" title=\"Top 20 Adjectives\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3319\/3576930892_2dcb61f5cb_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"438\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click on the graph for a larger view<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Those are the top 20, but I also spent a lot of time in the old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Synonym-Finder-J-I-Rodale\/dp\/0446370290\">Synonym Finder<\/a> book by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jerome_Irving_Rodale\">J.I. Rodale<\/a> that we have sitting around the office. I checked out 65 words total in this <em>highly <strong>UNscientific<\/strong> study <\/em>(I had to stop somewhere!) Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rmlsweb.com\/temp%2Fdocuments%2FTemporary%2FAdjectives%20List.pdf\">full list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I probably missed some other common ones, but one can only spend so much time\u2026 let me know if you noticed any omissions!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking for Unique Language for Your Listing? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to be unique in your listing language, here are some words that I didn\u2019t see in any listings:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/bewitching\">Bewitching<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/prodigious\"> Prodigious<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/winsome\"> Winsome<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/wondrous\"> Wondrous<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/tip\u2013top[2]\"> Tip-top<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/wordnetweb.princeton.edu\/perl\/webwn?s=number%201\"> A Number 1<\/a> (ala <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyricsfreak.com\/f\/frank+sinatra\/new+york+new+york_20056380.html\">Frank Sinatra<\/a>)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/bang-up\"> Bang-up<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, if you want to reach out to the younger generation, check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/thesaurus\/words+meaning+good,+okay,+cool,+awesome,+fun.html\">Online Slang Dictionary<\/a> \u2013 some very good stuff there.<\/p>\n<p>This is what it looked like when I tried:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/definition+of\/crib\">crib<\/a> is totally <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/definition+of\/fresh\">fresh<\/a>. It is in a <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/definition+of\/bomb+diggity\">bomb diggity<\/a> location just outside of Portland. The kitchen is totally <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/thesaurus\/words+meaning+good,+okay,+cool,+awesome,+fun\/page2\/\">bonkers<\/a>, with <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/definition+of\/choice\">choice<\/a>\u00a0granite countertops &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/onlineslangdictionary.com\/definition+of\/bumping\">bumping <\/a>hardwoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DISCLAIMER: I don&#8217;t actually recommend that you use any of the aforementioned adjectives in your listings&#8230; However, if you want to, more power to you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REALTORS\u00ae have a tough job in trying to accurately &amp; positively portray their listings, while also trying to set them apart from the pack (especially with a high-level of inventory), and I imagine it&#8217;s probably hard at times to find the right word (I can sympathize).
